KeepingYouAwake is an unobtrusive status bar menu application for macOS designed to prevent your computer from going to sleep. The app aims at replacing the Caffeine utility developed by Lighthead Software, which has not been updated lately and does not provide support for Retina displays.
Effortlessly prevent your Mac from going to sleep via the status bar
Upon launch, the KeepingYouAwake app places a small icon in the status bar and enables you to activate its functionality for an indefinite time period with a simple mouse click.
However, the status bar menu revealed by a right click, offers you the possibility to activate KeepingYouAwake only for a certain period: 5/10/15/30 minutes, or 1/2/5 hours.

The best part is that the KeepingYouAwake status bar icons are optimized to look good both on Retina displays, and on OS X Yosemite installations that use the dark mode. Unfortunately, KeepingYouAwake does not include any customization options.
Simple utility that uses Apple’s caffeinate command line tool
The KeepingYouAwake is ultimately just a user friendly graphic interface that enables you to make use of the caffeinate command line utility without having to deal with the Terminal app. Note that the caffeinate command line tool is included by default in any macOS installation.
Noteworthy is that you should always keep an eye on the application and disable the service when you do not actually use it in order to preserve energy, and to avoid possible overheating situations.
Uncomplicated yet very efficient solution for preventing your Mac from going to sleep in no time
To conclude, if you are looking for a simple utility that enables you to change the energy saving settings on your Mac in no time, as frequently as you like, and also looks good on Yosemite’s dark mode, KeepingYouAwake certainly deserves a try.
